Mechanics Analysis of Composites

Composite materials have been widely used in many industries such as automotive and aerospace due to their excellent thermo-mechanical properties.  With extensive knowledge and experience in mechanics analysis of composite materials, CRES has been involved in the investigation of the thermo-mechanical deformation behavior of composite materials in several systems such as the Carbon-Carbon composites and multilayer microelectronic packaging substrates.  Our work covers: (1) micromechanics analysis of composite materials with respect to the reinforcement length, volume fraction, type and orientation, (2) prediction of mechanical and thermal properties of composite materials, (3) Finite Element simulation of thermo-mechanical deformation behavior of composite materials.  The prediction scheme developed enables the design of the composite parts with improved reliability and low manufacturing cost.
